Development of concept for disassembly of existing buildings

RE4 is an international research and innovation programme with the participation of 13 partners from science and industry, which is funded by the EU under the Horizon 2020 programme.
Main Goal is the development of an innovative RE4 building concept that creates flexible floor plans through an intelligent structure which as a result increases the lifespan of buildings significantly. The use of prefabricated reversible elements deriving from demolition (up to 65%) allows an efficient construction but also gives the possibility of reusing the individual components at the end of the building’s lifespan and reduces the waste volume of the building sector substantially. For the development of the components not only the energy standard are taken into consideration, but also the use for renovation of buildings is being considered.
The innovation initially concentrates on the development of innovative dismantling strategies for existing buildings as well as of new sorting technology to increase the amount of reusable components and recyclable building material.
