ON SITE 01 | Partial Refurbishment Französisches Gymnasium, Berlin

The refurbishment of the 26 individual roof areas of the “Französisches Gymnasium” (“French Gymnasium”) in Berlin Tiergarten is progressing steadily. The (solar) green roofs and rooftop terraces are beginning to take shape. While the rooftop terrace on the 4th floor has been newly insulated and sealed, the substructures for the solar modules in the substrate were put in place on the 5th and 6th floors and are ready for installation. The next steps involve mounting the PV modules sowing the future green spaces. Additionally, the metal construction company is preparing to install the safety barrier for the future rooftop terraces.

Alongside the urgently needed roof refurbishments, the project also includes extensive green roof areas to improve the urban climate and manage rainwater on the property. Three spacious rooftop terraces are being created for the school community, providing future spaces for breaks and learning. To make this possible, the static conditions of the existing building were carefully examined in close collaboration with the structural engineers from ZRS.
