On Site 01 | BUND Headquarters, Berlin

The new federal headquarters of the Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland (BUND) is being built on the former site of the Kindl Brewery in Berlin-Neukölln and is designed by SMAQ Architektur und Stadt (LP 1–5). ZRS Ingenieure is responsible for the structural engineering and acoustic planning. ZRS Architekten joined the project in LP 6 and is in charge for the tendering and supervision.

Above the ground floor, which is built in reinforced concrete, four upper floors will be constructed as a timber frame building with wooden ceilings. The exterior walls of the upper floors consist of prefabricated wooden frame elements with wood fiber insulation. The entire building will feature a ventilated wooden facade and will be supplied with electricity from a photovoltaic system on the roof in the future.

The foundation work and the shell construction of the basement and ground floor have now been completed. Currently, the walls of the staircase on the first floor and the firewalls are being erected. The ceiling above the ground floor is being constructed over the entire length of the property, creating a covered entrance area that includes a seating staircase and additional seating to activate the semi-public space. In parallel with the on-site concrete work, the installation planning for the timber structure and the exterior wall elements (timber construction) has largely been completed. The elements up to the third floor are in production.

Directly next to the future BUND headquarters is the former warehouse of the Kindl Brewery, called “Vollgut”. In the renovation and a reuse-oriented conversion into a mixed-use building, ZRS Architekten is providing energy consulting and currently supports the Vollgut eG in LP 3. From LP 5 onward, ZRS will take over the planning. ZRS Ingenieure is also responsible for structural planning here, as well as at the CRCLR House  by Die Zusammenarbeiter, which is also located on the Kindl site.
